Click here for forms for state...if your student forgot to pick them up
Dear Parents,
We are just 1 week away from state conference. Every year we face multiple questions about State Competition. Please be aware that I have traveled all over the nation with FBLA for multiple years and have enjoyed the professional atmosphere FBLA provides for your son/daughter.
We will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta:
265 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, Georgia, United States, 30303
+1 404 577 1234

Please know that your child WILL be under supervision at all times. At no time will students be allowed to “wander” or “explore” without supervision. FBLA employs a strict curfew and even tougher standards on the students and their actions.
I will be the last one to bed at night (checking rooms) and Ms. Wilson will probably be the first one up in the morning...I won’t be too far behind. Your son/daughter will be supervised at all times.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via e-mail or my cell number.

Performance Competitor Dress Code
- Members competing in performance events must still wear a navy blazer, white shirt/shell/blouse, khaki or navy slacks or skirt, and dress shoes to avoid a 5 point penalty.
- Members must wear a bowtie or necktie with a button-up dress shirt (no tie needs to be worn with a blouse), but it no longer has to be the FBLA tie. Scarves are no longer required to be worn with blouses.
- I have many extra ties if the students need a tie. Patches are NOT required because we have switched to a new patch and there are not enough available yet.
- I do have extra blazers available.
In the following attached documents, dress code is mentioned. I use the term "formal attire" for young men and women. Specifically:

OFFICIAL DRESS CODE
- All members competing in performance events must be in Georgia FBLA official dress.
- Failure to comply with the dress code entirely (e.g., blue shirt, no patch, wrong tie/scarf, wrong color pants/skirt, no dress shoes) will result in a 20 point penalty.
EVENT ORIENTATION/ARRIVING ON TIME
- Please remember that all competitors must attend the Event Orientation, which starts 30 minutes prior to the start of the event. This is where competitors will receive their reporting and performance times.
- Competitors who do not attend event orientation will no longer be moved to the end.
- Competitors should also check-in with the doorkeeper at 30 minutes prior their performance time; this will be indicated as the REPORTING TIME on their orientation ticket. Once they check-in, they should remain in the immediate area in case they are called to compete early due to no-shows. If the event administrator cannot find them when they call for them (e.g., students are hanging out in another area of the competition floor, around the corner, etc.), the competitors will be considered late.
- In order to alleviate congestion and noise in the hallways, members should be in the lower levels of the Hyatt an hour before their scheduled time but should not report to the competition area until their scheduled REPORTING time
- Competitors who do not arrive to compete at their scheduled PERFORMANCE time will receive a 20 point penalty.
- Advisers may challenge this penalty by reporting to the Help Desk outside of the Inman/Kennesaw room and filling out an appeal sheet. This appeal must be submitted within one hour of the students completing their performance. Acceptable appeals would be a bus breaking down or irregular traffic patterns in Atlanta caused by a wreck (normal downtown Atlanta traffic is not considered irregular). Unacceptable appeals will be transportation issues not related to equipment malfunction, a student having to change clothes, a student eating, not knowing when to compete because they did not attend orientation, etc.
- If you have students competing in the first round of events on Friday afternoon, please make sure you arrive in plenty of time (we recommend you arrive no later than 11:00 am) to go through registration and find the orientation/performance rooms.
We will be releasing the conference app shortly so you and your students can determine and locate the orientation and performance rooms for their events.
CONFERENCE NAMETAGS
- All competitors must have their nametag in order to compete.
- If competitors do not have their nametag because you have not finished the registration process (you are running late on Friday or have to settle a balance due),
- You should send them directly to the event orientation room to get their performance times even without their nametags.
- If they are scheduled early in the order of competitors for the 12:00 – 3:45 session, they may still compete without their nametag, but must report back to the event administrator with their nametag no later than 30 minutes following the end of their performance.
- All competitors for the 4:15 pm session on Friday or for Saturday’s session must have their nametag to compete.
- If a student lost his/her nametag, the adviser and student must report to the Inman Room for a replacement nametag. There is a $5 charge for a replacement nametag. Replacement nametags must be paid for with cash. Note: The student may be given a provisional nametag to use for competing and will have to report back later to pick up the replacement nametag.
EVENTS THAT ALLOW VISUAL AIDS (e.g., handouts, projectors)
- Competitors are responsible for providing their own laptops and all cables.
- A projector with HDMI and VGA inputs will be available.
- Members must provide their own VGA/HMDI cables and any other accessory cables (e.g., Apple dongles) needed for their devices.
- We cannot guarantee the projectors will have any other connections such as USB.
- Members may also provide their own projectors.
- No one other than the competing members may assist with the setup of the equipment.
- If the members are unable to get the projectors to work, they should simply let the judges view the presentation from the competitor’s laptop/device.
- During the presentation, we recommend that if your competitor plans to show any videos to the judges that these videos be stored locally on the competitor’s device as we cannot guarantee that the internet access provided at the conference will effectively support video streaming.
- If visual aids are allowed and used for the presentation, NOTHING can be left with the judges (no samples of products). Anything you give the judges must be collected before the competitor exits the room.
